設立趣旨

明治の文明開化以降、大正、昭和へと引き継がれた演劇運動。

その先駆者である早稲田大学教授 坪内逍遥は、同大学出身の澤田正二郎が大正6年（1917年）に創立した劇団に、歌舞伎に代わる新しい「国の劇」を創れと「新国劇」と命名した。
澤田は、菊池寛ら新進作家の作品や西洋の作品を上演するとともに、今までの歌舞伎にはないリアリズムを取り入れた時代劇「月形半平太」「国定忠治」などを上演し、立ち回りにもリアリズムを取り入れて「殺陣（たて）」という言葉を生み出し、歌舞伎とはまったく違う迫力のある時代劇を創造した。
それが、現在テレビや映画や舞台で行われている「時代劇」のスタートである。

かつ、澤田は「半歩前進主義」を掲げ、斬新な現代劇と時代劇とで大衆を半歩ずつ導いて日本の演劇界をリードするとともに、自己をも半歩ずつ前進させ続けた。
その精神は島田正吾、辰巳柳太郎に受け継がれ、昭和62年（1987年）に70年の歴史を閉じて解散するまで劇団員の中にも脈々と流れ続けた。

日本時代劇研究所は元劇団員や時代劇関係者を中心に、新国劇の精神と時代劇を継承し、後世に伝えるとともに、新しい時代劇をも研究し創造するために俳優を養成する。
時代劇の所作、着物の着こなし、殺陣、メイク、役に合うかつらの選び方、小道具の使い方などが平然とできる時代劇俳優を養成し、スターを生み出す。
新国劇がそうであったように、時代劇（リアルな時代劇）現代劇・ミュージカルもできる俳優を養成する。
さらに、自分自身の内面をさらけだし、表現できる俳優を育成する。

 

A theater movement inherited from Taisho era to Showa era since the civilization and enlightenment of the Meiji era.

The pioneer, Waseda University professor Tsubouchi Shōyō, named the theater company founded in 1917 by Sawada Shōjirō as a “SHINKOKUGEKI”, creating a new “national theater” to replace Kabuki.
Sawada staged works by Kikuchi Kan and emerging artists, as well as Western works, and staged dramas such as “Tsukigata Hampeita” and “Kunisada Chūji” that incorporated realism that has not been found in kabuki so far. He also adopted the word “TATE -Japanese sword action-” by incorporating realism, and created a powerful historical drama that was completely different from kabuki.
That is the origin of the “Japanese Jidaigeki drama” currently being performed on television, movies and theatre.

And Sawada named “Half step forwardism” and led the public half step with new “Contemporary drama” and “Japanese Jidaigeki drama” to lead the Japanese theater world and continued to advance himself half step.
The spirit was handed down by Shimada Shōgo and Tatsumi Ryūtarō, and continued to flow among the members of the theater company until the history of 70 years was closed in 1987 and it was disbanded.

We, the Nippon Jidaigeki Lab., will inherit the spirit and Japanese Jidaigeki drama of the “SHINKOKUGEKI”, focusing on former theater members and Japanese Jidaigeki drama actors, and transmit them to future generations, as well as train actors to study and create new Japanese Jidaigeki drama.
We train Japanese Jidaigeki actors who can easily do Jidaigeki acting, Kimono dressing, Japanese sword action, Stage Makeup, How to choose a stage wig, How to use props, etc., and create a star actor.
And as SHINKOKUGEKI did, we train actors who can also play Jidaigeki dramas, contemporary dramas, and musicals.
In addition, we train actors who can reveal and express themselves.
